SOME PIMPING BECAUSE I AM A SHEEP AND I AM LAME YEAAAAAAAAAH.

So anyway this is some pimping on how awesome Date is from the manga (because pimping the anime will take forever and I am lazy so all you really need is this and this) as little of it as it is available BUT ANYWAY. This is from the manga for the third game... not that anything related to the third game really happens anyway hurr hurr. But this is personally one of my favourite parts about Date so I feel obligated to share with you. SO HERE WE GO! (All pages read from right to left.)

So we begin with Hideyoshi's army going around and generally spreading chaos as always - attacking Oshu and being terrifying and blah blah blah. BUT THEN, HERE COMES THE STAR OF THE DAY:

Yes, Date's entrance always requires such grandeur. It is a necessity.

ANYWAY so yes Date and his men basically kick the butt of the Toyotomi army without much incident, but in the process most of the village that got attack was destroyed, which led to this scene:

YOU CAN SEE THAT DATE IS A VERY NICE MAN ACTUALLY, UNDER ALL HIS DELINQUENCY HABITS.

So anyway the following morning Date is... somewhere and looking steaming hot in his yukata alone and doing his usual training regime and all that jazz. But then suddenly a commotion starts to happen, and Date being the goddamned head of Oshu of course has to go and see what happens.

ENTER ITSUKI, a totally playable character in the series who is small and dangerous and as you can see, wields a giant hammer-mallet thing. Capcom is strange like that.

Anyway so what's happening is that some peasants were trying to steal weapons from the army camp and were caught and were being chased by the guards of the Date army, but Date for some unknown reason for now went to defend Itsuki much the chagrin of his men who give the best O_O expression ever when they see that it's Masamune protecting her. And basically the following happens:

SEE THE SHOCKED FACES OF HIS MEN AS THEY REALIZE HOW MUCH SHIT THEY'RE GETTING INTO. But yes, Date is as always forever strange and eccentric like that. So basically after this Date did a feint to get his men back before he ran off with Itsuki, and while his men were all e_e at their leader Katakura shows up and somehow magically knows everything that's going on because he's magical like that. It's the reason why he's Date's right hand man, duh. But yes rather than worry about Date's oddball moves, he understands what Date seems to be up to right off the bat and just let things go on as usual. And this shows how much the duo actually know and trust each other, ufufufu.

So moving along, Itsuki and Date have a conversation once they're safe, and Date starts asking about who and what the girl is. Itsuki explains that her weapon was apparently given by the Rice God, and she took it up in order to put a stop to the battling and protect the rice fields of her village. Date only looks amused. But then the other peasants show up and obviously they distrust Date and think he's a bad guy or something along those lines, and with good reason since he just showed up in the blue (haha) like that. Itsuki tries to explain, but Date draws out his sword instead with the intention to fight.

Obviously, of course, it's simply Date's way of teaching little Itsuki what are the things she actually has to face if she wants to go down the path she chose. Rather than really understanding though, all Itsuki did was to use the power of her rice mallet and drove back the battle. Date got hit and was fine, but he pretended to be unconscious so that he could be brought to where her village was (later he says he didn't like to do this pretending sigh).

So anyway Date wakes up once he's there and left alone, and manages to eavesdrop a little on the conversation between Itsuki and the other villages which is basically something of a shounen speech and Date understands a bit more about the situation (mostly the reason as to why he even did all this in the first place, because this is his land after all). Uh then later on Itsuki drops by and gives him some rice balls to eat and talks to him about her village which eventually leads to this:

SO BASICALLY WHAT HAPPENED WAS THAT Date finally understood Itsuki and empathizes with her, because her dream is basically his dream as well. So because he is a nice guy, Date drags her out and goes to show her the state of the village that was razed in last night's attack - except now that its being rebuilt, under the orders of Date himself after this scene which wasn't show earlier for this. Itsuki finally understands better now after that, and while she was distracted Date makes his escape alon with his retainer, and we have this happening:

NOW LET NOBODY SAY THAT DATE IS A BAD GUY BECAUSE HE IS TOTALLY NICE.

And so back to Itsuki! Full of understanding now and figuring out that hey, Date really isn't that bad of a guy, she returns to the village with the intention of telling them about this wonderful news. Unfortunately, shit happens and the Toyotomi army comes, having been informed by one of the villagers about the weapons they were hoarding. Date gets the news and starts to head there, but in the meantime poor Itsuki is beaten down quick when she tries to fight back, and the army starts to raze the village. The final blow is about to be dealt when--

DATE ARRIVES. And basically kicks loads of butt. BUT THAT IS NOT ALL!

And know you know how Date manages to rule his land aside from his Rule of Cool.

So yes more butt kicking basically happens annnd everything is fine and happy again.

AND SO THE LEGEND CONTIUNES and I guess I might do something like this for another manga chapter because everyone should know the awesome combination that is Date and Katakura. \o/
